Strain Origin
Known scientifically as Psilocybe natalensis, or colloquially as “Blue Meanies” this strain has many traits that reflect those of Psilocybe cubensis. However, genetic testing has confirmed that it is in fact a unique species of its own. It has been described as a sort of a hybrid between P. cubensis and Pan Cyan in regard to its psychoactive effects, but, again, is its own species altogether. In comparison to P. cubensis, it is very vigorous and highly resistant to disease and contamination. Now, you can legally acquire their spores for microscopy in 47 states! This strain may also be referred to as “Super Natal Strength”, but is more commonly labeled as “Blue Meanies”.
Difficulty
Blue meanies are considered one of the more difficult strains to work with. Though they share many properties with P. Cubensis, there are some major differences that create a learning curve for novices. It is great for people that want to challenge themselves, and for people experience something truly unique. Warning: Cultivating mushrooms or mycelium propogated from these spores is highly illegal. Not only can you get in trouble with the law, but they are far more potent than Psilocybe Cubensis and may lead to dangerous situations regarding your health.
Spore Features
The spores of Blue Meanies mushrooms are dark purple to brownish on 4-spored basidia, and usually leave large dark prints 30-75mm in diameter. They provide ample research material.

Authentic Psilocybe Natalensis spores are quite difficult to come by. In fact, many “blue meanies” products online may be referring to a different species all together.
