Strain Origin
This is one of the more highly sought-after P. Cubensis varieties and is named after the city Huautla de Jimenez, in the Mexican state of Oaxaca where Maria Sabina introduced the western world to psilocybin mushrooms and their effects. This mushroom is relatively easy to work with, and has a classic yet beautiful morphology. Oh yeah, and its pretty cool to feel a piece of mycological history. Huautla mushroom spores are now legal and available for microscopy. Quite the journey this humble strain has made!
Spore Features
Huautla spores are dark purple to blackish, sub-ellipsoid on 4-spored basidia. The caps are typically large ranging from 40mm to 70mm and deposit heavy spore loads.
Rarity
Huautla spores are pretty common & highly sought after in the myco-community. However, getting pure genetics is harder than you’d think. Many vendors provide mixed bags, unviable spores, or the wrong species all-together in an attempt to trick you / offload unwanted inventory. We’ve been supplying spores since 2008 and have a team of mycologists that ensure every single batch’s authenticity.
Cultural Significance
Huautla mushrooms have a special place in the hearts of the indigenous peoples of Oaxaca, where they’ve used it for medicinal value & religious practice for centuries. Now, it has earned a mainstay in the American & global mycology community. Frankly, without the mushroom, the psilcoybe industry would be years behind! Thanks to Maria Sabina and her knowledge, the west is beginning to understand and harness the powers of psilocybin.
