The B+ Mushroom Strain | What To Know
Interest in psychedelic fungi is reaching an all-time high, and the popular B+ Mushroom is the perfect embodiment of it. Navigating the differences between strains can be confusing, but this guide will give you a clear understanding of B+ characteristics, so that you can feel comfortable working with it moving forward.
Disclaimer: B+ mushrooms, and all strains of psilocybe cubensis are federally illegal to have in your possession. This content is for educational purposes only, and is meant to provide added context regarding our microscopy spores syringe products. Our spores are for microscopy only, and none of the information provided is intended to imply that our spores are for anything else, especially cultivation.
What Is The B+ Mushroom?
The B+ mushroom is a strain of the species Psilocybe cubensis, the most common species of “magic mushrooms”. The strain is very popular in today’s marketplace and is gaining interest thanks to its beginner traits and outstanding morphology. As the magic mushroom industry grows, learning the basics about B+ now will help you tremendously down the road!
Where did B+ Come From?
The B+ mushroom, according to legend, was sourced from a wild mushroom in central Florida. In a wet pasture, one mycologist stumbled across a HUGE cubensis mushroom that was bruised with a deep blue color. The craziest part? It was over 10 inches tall!! A mushroom with so much size must have some desirable properties for research, right? Absolutely. This idea is what inspired the discoverer to isolate the strain and turn it into what is now known as the B+ mushroom. This mushroom is very cold resistant, has tendency to grow to huge sizes in the wild, and is one of the most beautiful ever created.
Why are they so popular? There’s really no secret here. B+ is beloved for its potent beauty & morphology, as well as its connection to the popular state of Florida. Additionally, B+ mushroom spores are much easier to work with than other strains like the Albino Penis Envy. B+ is a beginner friendly way to experience the fun of cubensis, and is widely accessible in the market today.

Do B+ Mushrooms Have Any Cultural Significance?
Some strains like Mazatapec or Penis Envy have rich historical contexts and a developed culture around them. B+ mushrooms are a bit different, in that the culture around it is just starting to develop. So far, it is being perceived as a staple of modern day American Mycology, a “classic” strain that will go down in history with reverence and be looked back upon fondly. In the meantime, however, it is evolving and being perfected by mycologists like our team here at Eden Shrooms.
Physical Characteristics Of The B+ Mushroom
In the USA & its territories, you’ll only be able to work with the spores of B+ mushrooms, so we’ll discuss those features first. Then, for educational purposes, we’ll describe what the mushroom itself would look like if was hypothetically grown.
What Do The Spores Of B+ Look Like?
The spores of the B+ mushrooms are sub-ellipsoid on 4-spored basidia (a club-shaped cell that releases spores). For a visual example, think of what a red-blood cell looks like floating around your bloodstream. The general oval, cell-like shape is not too dissimilar.
The spores, which are dark brown to black, can actually stain the mushroom thus creating a nice color contrast of pale & mahogany. How can we see microscopic spores? Well, B+ mushroom is a pretty heavy spore producer, leaving noticeable dark deposits and beautiful prints! .
What does the B+ Mushroom look like?
Let us reiterate that B+ mushrooms are illegal to have in the USA, and so you won’t have luck viewing them within our borders. However, for the sake of education, we can attempt to describe what they’d look like if they did grow in the wild, or in a legal jurisdiction elsewhere in the world. B+ mushrooms have that classic cubensis shape, but with mahogany-brown colors and a tint of beige-yellow. Also, keep an eye out for white speckles on the cap!
B+ mushrooms have long, off-white stems and a veil that is usually darker than the cap itself. In essence, they are a beautiful mushroom with classy shades of brown that will catch your eye from a distance. Look closer at the chemical anatomy of the B+, and you’ll a very high alkaloid content, but not as much as something like Tidal Wave. Overall, and in our mycological opinion, B+ is one of the most visually brilliant strains that there is for people that love an organic look & feel.
How Big Are B+ Mushrooms?
What about size? In nature, B+ mushrooms can become huge, topping 10 inches in height. However, B+ aren’t the biggest in the lab, they aren’t the smallest, but rather an optimal size for rapidly & effectively dealing with environmental conditions. B+ Mushrooms are tough, vibrant, and chemically dense, but aren’t really the largest mushrooms you’ll ever see in an indoor setting.
Legal Status of B+ Mushrooms
As legislation evolves, this information is subject to change. However, this is the general legal situation from a bird’s eye view:
Buying B+ Mushrooms = Illegal
Possessing B+ Mushrooms = Illegal
Growing B+ Mushrooms = Illegal
Buying B+ Spores = Legal in 48 states! (sorry Georgia and Idaho)
Consuming B+ Mushrooms = Illegal (Warning: JMF mushrooms are very potent and consumption is NOT advised)
Are B+ Mushrooms Easy To Work With?
The B+ strain is quite a simple strain to work with, making it a great starting point for beginners with an interest in microscopy. In fact, we think B+ mushrooms present the easiest way to grow your magic mushroom hobby with confidence. Why? Well, studying the strain under a microscope can be done very quickly and obtaining quality results can be achieved a lot more easily than, say, the Albino Penis Envy strain. You can grow your mycology hobby pretty easily with these.
Can You Grow B+ Mushrooms?
Ahh, the question we’ve all been waiting for. Can you buy spores and grow your own B+ magic mushrooms? In theory, these spores are capable of producing new mushrooms with real and active psilocybin within it. However, we must warn you that propagating these spores into psilocybe mushrooms is highly illegal and can get you in some serious trouble. Do not attempt to use our magic mushroom spores for anything besides microscopy.
Is Growing B+ Easy (Hypothetically Speaking)?
Again, you are not allowed to grow magic mushrooms in the USA. However, understanding their genetic expressions is pivotal to performing proper microscopy research. With that said, B+ mushrooms are actually quite easy to grow in theory. Many of the cultivation principles follow that of other culinary mushrooms like Oyster mushrooms, but how? For edible mushrooms like Oyster, a spore syringe is injected onto a sterile substrate, until all of the substrate is colonized. Then, the substrate is brought into “fruiting conditions” which typically consists of more air-flow and humidity, as well as a slightly lower temp. B+ is beloved for its ability to handle a multitude of environmental conditions, making it more approachable for a novice. Remember that cultivation is highly illegal and 100% not advised.
Understanding the basic behavior of the B+ strain is very important to understanding various elements of the spore.
Where Can I Buy B+ Spores?
B+ spores are sold primarily on EdenShrooms.com. Should you see them listed anywhere else, be careful, as many vendors provide fake or unverified genetics. Additionally, you may have luck finding B+ spores in any of our 100+ retail locations near you! Since the mushroom does not have a native range, shopping spore syringes is the only way to acquire any genetic material pertaining to this strain. Maybe one day it will have found a native range, but not yet!
